Installing the Java Plug-in for SOA 5.1



To use the online interface, you must install Java plug-in 1.4.2 on your computer. The plug-in is a free file you can download from the Sun Microsystems Web site. Prior to installing the 1.4.2 plug-in, you must uninstall all other versions of Java.

To uninstall old versions of the Java plug-in:

  1. Click the Start menu button on your PC.
    A pop-up menu opens.
  2. Click Settings > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs.
    The Add/Remove Program window opens.
  3. Find the Java plug-in and click Change/Remove.
    An uninstall dialog box opens and asks you to confirm that you want the plug- in and its associated files removed.
  4. Click Yes.
    When the utility is finished, click OK to close the control panel.
To install the Java 1.4.2 plug-in on your computer:
  1. Open your Web browser and go to: http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/download.html
    A Java Download Menu opens.
  2. Scroll down to the ~SDownload J2SE v 1.4.2,~T heading and click the Download link in the JRE column.
    A licensing agreement opens.
  3. Read the licensing agreement and scroll to the bottom of the window. Click Accept and Continue.
    The Download Java page opens.
  4. Click the Windows Offline Installation, Multi-language download link.
    A dialog box opens prompting you to run the program or save it to disk.
  5. Select Save this program to disk and click OK.
    A Save As dialog box opens.
  6. Select a convenient location, for example: your desktop. The file's default name is "j2se-1_4_2-win.exe"; you can rename the file but you must keep the ".exe" extension.
    When the download is complete, close your browser.
  7. Locate the file and double-click the icon.
    The Java installation program opens.
  8. Follow the step-by-step installation instructions. You will receive a confirmation when the installation is complete.
To download the Java policy file:

  1. Left click the policy file link below. The contents of the file are displayed in the window or the browser's File Download box automatically appears.

  2. Click File menu and select Save As. The Windows Save As dialog box opens.
  3. In the "Save as type" drop down menu, select All Files.
  4. Click Save to save the file to a convenient location on your hard drive. You do not need to rename the file.
  5. Close or minimize your browser to view your Windows desktop.
To direct Java to the policy file location:

  1. From your Windows Start button, select Settings>Control Panel> Java Plug-in.The Java Plug-in Control Panel will open.
  2. Click the Advanced tab.
  3. In the Java Runtime Parameters field, type the following text, replacing the location and name of the file with location and file name you just used to save the policy file:
       -Djava.security.policy=[path and filename]
    For example:
       -Djava.security.policy=c:\user\java\soaclient.policy
  4. Click Apply. The enhancement you selected is installed on your system.
To verify that the Java1.4.2 Plug-in and policy file are installed:

  1. If you have downloaded the Java plug-in and policy file, but you cannot log on to the interface or do not have full report functionality, go to the Plug-In Test Page to verify the Java plug-in version and policy files.
